Jonathan Ryan
Biography
-
Jonathan has been a professional actor for 25 years, having made his debut playing 'Dan' opposite Lyn Redgrave and Dan O'Herlihy in "A Better Place" at the Gate Theatre in 1972. Since then he has worked extensively on stage, in TV, Film, Radio and as a commericial voiceover artist.
Theatre work includes: Milne in 'Night and Day', Bob in 'The Silver Dollar Boys', Guildenstern in 'Hamlet', Archer in 'The Beaux Stratagem', Miles in "The Death and Resurrection of Mister Roche' at the Abbey Theatre; the Gentleman Caller in "The Glass Menagerie', Giovanni in 'Innocence (The Life of Caravaggio)', Aslak/Ballon in "Peer Gynt" and Tigellinus in 'Salomé' (which toured to the Edinburgh Festival and Spoletto International Festival in Charleston, South Carolina) for the Gate Theatre; Bill Sikes in Noel Pearson's 'Oliver!' and Abanazar in 'Aladdin' at the Olympia Theatre. Over two seasons at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast playing leading roles in 'We Do It For Love', 'The Colleen Bawn', 'The Cuchulainn Cycle', 'The Evangelist', 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' and 'Grease'.
He appeared in The Dublin Theatre festival production of 'Romeo and Juliet' which toured to the City Theatre in Hong Kong.
He performed the 'The Durkan Suite' accompanied by composer Bill Whelan and The London Chamber Orchestra at the NCH.
Television work ranges from presenting the pre-school children's programme 'Bosco' to appearing in 'Bracken'. As well as appearances in 'The Irish RM', 'The Year of the French', 'Caught in a Free State' and 'Summer Lightning', all for RTE/Channel 4, 'Against All Odds' (BBC), twenty seven mad characters in the comedy series 'Twink' and the lead role in 'The Templewood Murder Mystery' - both for RTE. 'Die Gluckliche Familie" for Sud-Deutscher Rundfunk and 'Hochzeitreisen' for Nord-Deutscher Rundfunk (Germany).
Film work includes: 'The Outsider' with Sterling Hayden and Ray McAnally,'Budawanny' with Donal McCann, 'Taffin' with Pierce Brosnan, 'Patriot Games' with Harrison Ford and Patrick Bergin, 'In the Name of the Father' with Daniel Day Lewis, 'Moll Flanders' with Morgan Freeman, Robin Wright and Stockard Channing, 'Kidnapped' with Armand Assanté, Brendan Gleeson and Michael Kitchen.
Probably Ireland's best known voiceover artist for over twenty years, Jonathan has recorded TV and Radio commericals for clients worldwide, winning numerous awards!
